Nnamdi Wins Top Ranking in Madden NFL 10

Oakland Raider fans who take a measure of pride in how their team is represented in the EA Sports Madden NFL universe can boast a little bit today. In Madden NFL 10 player ranking just released, cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha is the top-ranked corner in football.

In fact, Asomugha finds himself in a four-way tie for the highest-rated defensive player in the NFL. He joins Ed Reed, Albert Haynesworth, and cover boy Troy Polamalu as holders of a top composite score of 99.

Madden NFL 10, the one featuring the hair of both Larry Fitzgerald and Troy Polamalu flying around on the cover, won't be released until August 14, 2009. But retailers, I'm sure, are happy to take your pre-orders anytime.

Madden-obsessed Raider fans might also enjoy seeing a sneak preview screen shot of Darrius Heyward-Bey for Madden NFL 10. Please note, Mr. Kiper, that several first rounders are given skill scores well below that of Heyward-Bey.

Admittedly, this stuff is only news because we're so deep in the abyss of the off-season that we're just jonesing to hear anything Raiders-related. Nothing in this game has anything to do with how the actual regular season is going to turn out. Except, of course, the inevitable season-ending injury to whichever athlete appears on the cover of the game.

If that's the case, let's be happy with having a Raider as top-ranked cornerback as opposed to having a Raider on the cover.
