Raiders Eliminated From Playoff Contention on Christmas Eve

The Raiders began the 2017 season with Super Bowl aspirations. Instead, they won't even make the playoffs.

With the Chiefs beating the Dolphins on Sunday, the Raiders were mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. The Chiefs clinched the AFC West with the win.

It's a disappointing way for the season to end.

The Raiders entered Week 16 with slim playoff hopes. In addition to needing to win their game against the Eagles, the Raiders needed a series of events to occur in order to go into Week 17 with a chance. Wins by the Ravens, Patriots, Rams and Dolphins would have kept their in the hunt. Baltimore took care of business on Saturday, while New England and Los Angeles won on Sunday. But Miami couldn't hold up their end of the scenario.

There will be no Week 17 miracle.

In a now-meaningless game, the 6-8 Raiders will take on the 12-2 Eagles on Christmas night in Philadelphia. Oakland closes out the regular season next Sunday in Los Angeles against the Cnargers.
