Jeremy Roenick and Patrick Marleau have a curious past. The longtime opponents were teammates for two seasons from 2007-2009. But Roenick has trashed Marleau multiple times after his retirement, calling him gutless in the postseason and not one of the locker room favorites.
After 19 NHL seasons all with the Sharks, Marleau is moving on to Toronto after accepting a three-year, reported $18.75 million contract. And Roenick is wishing him the best, sort of...
"Many people know my thoughts on Marleau," Roenick tweeted. "Do I think he will be a 20-30 goal scorer for the leafs, no I do not. I hope I'm wrong.
"I want @MapleLeafs to do well. So I wish him the best of luck, & I congratulate Marleau on his new contract. Good for him! #leafsnation."
Marleau is one of just 45 players in the 500-goal club. The 37-year-old has 508 goals and 574 assists for 1,082 points in 1,493 career games.
