Why Dell and Sonya Have a New Respect for Steph Curry's Work Ethic

Do you remember what Steph Curry said at Media Day about his offseason regimen? In case you forgot:

"This has been a great summer. I've done a lot off the court in terms of life experiences. But it's been the best summer I've had in terms of my training (and) my preparation for a season."

Well, over the first nine games this season, the two-time MVP averaged 33.0 points and 5.9 assists while shooting 55 percent overall and 53 percent from 3-point range.

During the third quarter of Golden State's game in Atlanta on Monday night, Curry's father, Dell, joined Bob Fitzgerald and Jim Barnett on the TV broadcast and praised his son's work ethic.

"We went on the Asia Tour with Under Armour and Steph. We gained a new respect for his workout routine," Dell explained. "It was unbelievable to watch him get up at 5:00 or 5:30 and go for a 3-hour workout -- I mean a hard workout at a game-type pace -- and he's the only guy in the gym working.

"And then the rest of the day is filled with appearances and he didn't complain. Next day, he'd get up and do the same thing. I thought that was a big reason as to why he got off to such a good start."

After missing 11 games with a strained left groin, Curry returned to game action on Saturday in Detroit. He struggled in the first half -- 2-for-9 overall and 0-for-5 from deep -- but went 8-for-12 in the second half and made three of his four 3-point attempts.

Against the Hawks, he picked up right where he left off -- racking up 18 points in the first quarter on 6-for-7 from the field. After the win, he told NBC Sports Bay Area's Kerith Burke that he has his rhythm back.

"Missed a little bit of time but didn't take very long with how much work I put in," Curry said. "Just staying confident, staying ready."
