When the economy's down in the dumps, we like to think a warm cup of eggnog and a lap or two around the ice rink will take our minds off our impending doom. Happily, Union Square will get an ice rink this year— for the first time in a long time— so earmuffy holiday cheer's just around the corner. If the plan's approved, the rink will be open Nov. 11 through Jan. 4, and will put Rockefeller Center to shame. OK, maybe not. [SF Examiner]
