Google Chromebooks Hit Store Shelves

Google Chromebooks, small laptops outfitted with Google's Chrome OS that's stripped down to exist solely using web apps, are now available for purchase. Will you be picking one up?

The first batch of Chromebooks from Acer and Samsung are now for sale at Best Buy and on Amazon, ranging in price from $380 to $500. Of course, for similar prices you could go buy a tablet, such as Apple's super-popular iPad, which will offer up similar functionality without the luxury of a keyboard.

What do you think? For basic surfing and emailing, would you prefer the form factor of a laptop or of a tablet? Google is betting on laptop, but I'm not so sure these things will come anywhere near the popularity of the iPad.
