Yahoo will add former NBC sitcom "Community" to its site, according to reports.

Yahoo said it would add "Community," a former NBC sitcom about a group of students at a community college, to its lineup, according to reports. Sony TV made a "last-minute deal" with Yahoo, TheWrap reported.

Apparently the 13-episode deal was also being shopped to Hulu, but Yahoo ended up making the winning bid after talks with Hulu "broke down," according to the report. Sony needed to make the deal because the cast's contracts were about to expire.

“Yahoo is all about connecting the best creators to the audiences who love their work. ‘Community’ has an incredibly passionate and loyal fan base who have fought hard to keep this amazing show alive," Yahoo chief marketing officer Kathy Savitt said. "We couldn't be more excited to work with . . . the entire cast, as well as Sony, to deliver a great Season 6."

Showrunner Dan Harmon also seemed pleased by the deal. “I look forward to bringing our beloved NBC sitcom to a larger audience by moving it online," he said in a statement. "I vow to dominate our new competition."

The program was canceled by NBC in March after five seasons. Despite never getting high ratings it still managed a loyal following and good reviews. Earlier this year, Yahoo announced that it was commissioning two, "TV-length" comedies for the site. Adding the quirky "Community" seems to make more sense than a program about a basketball team owned by a Silicon Valley billionaire.
