World Series Trophy Goes First Class to Big Apple

The Giants don't mess around when it comes to doing things with panache, and the tour of the World Series trophy this offseason is no exception

Virgin America's non-stop flight Thursday morning from SFO to JFK had something very special in the first class section: The Giants World Series trophy sitting First Class in seat 1D.

The trophy was accompanied by Giants CEO Larry Baer and Virgin CEO David Cush as the team moves the trophy tour to the Big Apple.

The flight is all about the Giants.

The plane has a Brian Wilson beard on it nose. Passengers will be able to take photos once the plane gets to cruising altitude.  And Baer will be holding a mid-air live chat on Twitter starting at 1 p.m. using hashtag "#SFGTrophy."

Why New York? The Giants used to be the New York Giants until 1958, and the trophy is making a victory lap to the place where it all began.

"The Giants had more year in New York than in San Francisco," Baer said before taking off. "We wanted to honor our past."

It made the same tour when the team won the World Series in 2010.

If you know any Giants fans in New York, the trophy will be on display at Finnerty's Bar on 2nd Ave on Saturday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Below are two photos released by Virgin. One shows Sen. Dianne Feinstein posing with the trophy. Virgin said she was on another flight to D.C., but stopped by to pose with the trophy.  The other one show Baer buckling in the trophy. Safety first!
