The ladies love the romance and the gents dig the story’s sci fi roots – “The Time Traveler’s Wife” has something for everyone.

That includes “Friends” creator Marta Kauffman and ABC, who are teaming up to produce a television pilot with the intention of launching a weekly television series as early as 2010, the New York Post reports.

The book, originally penned by Chicago resident and Columbia College professor Audrey Niffenegger, and its movie counterpart have both been successful. The movie ranked third at the box office during its debut weekend.

No word yet on who will star as main characters Clare and Henry in the series, but casting has been a sticky situation in the past for this unique love story.

The movie was originally optioned in 2003 -- before Niffenegger even completed the book -- by Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston's production company, Plan B (now solely owned by Brad Pitt). Screenwriter Bruce Joel Rubin said he wrote the screenplay with Pitt and Aniston in mind for the roles of Clare and Henry.

“I just found them equally attractive and equally compelling and in terms of the Hollywood arena at that time, they were as good a couple as you could find,” Rubin told OK! Magazine. “I was writing it in my mind for them.”

But when the couple split up those plans fell through – we can’t imagine why! – and Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana were cast in 2007.

All drama aside, for those who have swooned at this love affair, be it on screen or in print, take pride in the fact that fellow Chicagoan Niffenegger created it all. And hey, Eric Bana's character's from Chicago, too.
