Craigslist Not Off the Hook Yet

Chicago sheriff files suit against SF-based site

San Francisco-based Web site Craigslist is too hot for Chicago.

At least that's what the Cook County Sheriff's Department thinks of the popular site's "Erotic Services" section.

Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart says Craigslist is the single largest source of prostitution in the United States.

Dart's office filed a federal lawsuit Thursday against Craigslist, saying the popular online classifieds site promotes and facilitates prostitution on a massive scale.

Dart is asking a federal judge to order Craigslist to eliminate its "Erotic Services" section, suggesting many of the section's ads are blatant solicitations for prostitution.

Craigslist and its public relations firm didn't immediately return e-mails and telephone messages seeking comment.

Dart said the lawsuit follows repeated requests to Craigslist to shut down the section.
