A small plane attempting an emergency landing at the Big Bear Airport wound up in Big Bear Lake instead.

No one aboard the single-engine Beechcraft was seriously hurt in the Saturday morning crash in the San Bernardino Mountains.

Airport official Bob Dow says the plane's pilot had radioed just before the crash that he was having engine trouble.

He was cleared to land on one of the airport's runways but responded that he was losing altitude and was going to come up short.

He landed near the lake's south shore. Sheriff's officials say there were just a handful of people on board.

They say all of them exited the aircraft quickly. Dow says some suffered minor cuts and bruises.
