Zuckerberg IMs Not Kind to His Users

Facebook is trying to earn your trust, but CEO's past haunts it

The latest revelation of a young Facebook co-founder and now CEO Mark Zuckerberg's bad behavior at college couldn't come at a worse time, as the company is gathering employees for a meeting to clarify privacy questions.

In a transcript from an instant message reported to be between Zuckerberg and a college buddy, Zuckerberg boasts of having the personal details of thousands of classmates:

Zuck: I have over 4,000 emails, pictures, addresses, SNS
[Redacted Friend's Name]: What? How'd you manage that one? Zuck: People just submitted it.
Zuck: I don't know why.
Zuck: They "trust me"
Zuck: Dumb f**ks.

Granted, that was back when it was still "The Facebook," and Zuckerberg was 19. Surely now he has all the sage wisdom, moral clarity and ethical perspective of, well, an incredibly wealthy guy who still wears shower shoes in public and turns 26 on Friday.

Zuckerberg earlier came under fire for hacking into e-mail accounts of journalism students at the Harvard Crimson using information gleaned from his access to Facebook's database in an effort to get ahead of what he thought might be a negative story.

Humility, thy name is not Facebook.

Jackson West isn't surprised that from its earliest days, Facebook was built for stalking.
