Police Investigate 2 More Suspects Arrested in Fatal Shooting of 30-Year-Old Oakland Mom

Prosecutors said Monday that they have decided not to file charges against a woman who was arrested on suspicion of being an accessory to murder in connection with the fatal shooting that claimed the life of a 30-year-old mother in West Oakland last Monday afternoon.

Oakland police said this morning that 29-year-old Kiechelle Wilright was one of three new suspects they arrested over the weekend in connection with the killing of Chyemil Pierce in front of her home in the 2900 block of Chestnut Street at about 4:45 p.m. last Monday after a nearby argument turned violent.

But a spokeswoman for the Alameda County District Attorney's office said this afternoon that prosecutors have declined to file charges against Wilright.

The spokeswoman said prosecutors are continuing to review police reports for Shelton McDaniels and Jerry Harbin, both 29, who were arrested on suspicion of murder last Friday night.

Last Thursday, Oakland police announced that 19-year-old Anthony Sims had been arrested and charged with murder and unlawful firearm activity for the fatal shooting of Pierce, who worked as a human resources specialist for Kaiser Permanente and was the mother of children who are ages 7 and 9.

Police said Pierce was walking to her home with her children when the shooting erupted and she was trying to get them to safety when she was shot.

When police announced the arrest of Sims last Thursday they said it wasn't clear if he fired the shot that claimed Pierce's life and they were looking for other suspects.

Police said Pierce got caught in the crossfire of a gunfight that occurred after groups of male suspects got involved in a fight between female subjects on the street that day.

Lt. Roland Holmgren said Sims was one of several people who opened fire.

Sims was also injured in the gunfight along with one other person and was arrested at the hospital after he was treated for the gunshot wound, Holmgren said.

If prosecutors file charges against McDaniels and Harbin, they will be arraigned at the Wiley Manuel Courthouse in Oakland at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
