A 9-year-old boy was mauled to death by his guardian's three pit bulls after he was left alone with the dogs inside her mobile home in Northern California, authorities said.
The Yuba County Sheriff's Department said a 24-year-old woman left the child alone on Sunday in Linda, California, and went to work. She returned about three hours later and found the boy had been mauled by the dogs.
Police said the child was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
According to the sheriff's department, the woman is the child's guardian and a suspect in the case but that no arrests have been made. It released no other details.
Police said the dogs were seized by Animal Care Services, which reports having no history with the animals.
