Big Rig Fire Shuts Down 237

Fatal big rig crash closes Silicon Valley commute artery.

A fatal big rig crash shut down Highway 237 in Sunnyvale Tuesday afternoon.

The crash happened around 2:20 p.m. The truck overturned and then burst into flames after reportedly suffering a blown tire.

The California Highway Patrol said the driver was unable to escape and died in the cab of his truck

One westbound lane was reopened around 4:15 p.m., but the eastbound traffic was expected to be closed through the evening commute.

People who live in Sunnyvale reported hearing a loud explosion and then a burst of smoke.

The driver was not immediately identified.
