Car Smashes into SJ House, Driver Takes Off

The driver of an SUV that smashed into a San Jose home took off after the crash.

Quanghuy Nguyen is feeling lucky that he was at work on the assembly line Thursday morning before dawn.

At about 5:20 a.m., the driver of a Ford Excursion plowed into his family's rented home on South King Road in San Jose -- the nose of the SUV smashing into Nguyen's bedroom window. Thankfully, Nguyen was at work in Milpitas. There is a big gaping hole in his bedroom wall, and NBC Bay Area sent a photographer to survey the damage. Nguyen also took several photos.

"I could have died," Nguyen said.

His parents and brother were home in a separate part of the house. And when they awoke to the sounds of an SUV careening into concrete, they said they rushed to Nguyen's bedroom to see what happened.

But the driver of the SUV was nowhere to be found.

San Jose police officer Jose Garcia said investigators impounded the Ford and are now seeking the driver. Since no one was injured, police said the most they could charge the driver with is a misdemeanor hit-and-run.
