A retail survey finds a declining LGBT population among new residents in San Francisco's Castro District.

"New residents are not only younger, but fewer identify as LGBT," according to survey findings released by Castro & Upper Market Retail Strategy, a coalition of neighborhood and merchant organizations formed to explore the neighborhood's high retail vacancy rates of 8-9 percent.

The survey also found that the majority of residents in the Castro continue to identify as LGBT, about 73 percent of "local residents" who were polled.

Members of the coalition will make remarks and offer more information at a public open house event on June 4 at 6 p.m., at 2175 Market St., the site of a future local food and retail market hall.
