Child shot in Oakland blocks from last week's fatal shooting of a toddler

OAKLAND (BCN)

A child was shot this afternoon in Oakland only a few blocks away from where a 3-year-old boy was fatally shot earlier this month.

Police said one child was shot on the 5900 block of International Boulevard at 3:19 p.m. today.

The child was driven to a local hospital for treatment and was in stable condition, according to police.

Police are searching for an unknown suspect armed with a firearm. No suspect is in custody.

The shooting was only blocks away from where 3-year-old Carlos Navas was shot and killed on Aug. 8. Police have said that shooting was gang-related, and that two other men wounded in the shooting were the intended targets.

Two men have been arrested in connection with that drive-by shooting. Willie Torrence, a 22-year-old Oakland resident who was arrested in Las Vegas on Aug. 12, is suspected of being the driver in the shooting. Lawrence Denard, a 26-year-old Oakland resident who was arrested in Pittsburg on Aug. 9, is suspected of being the shooter.
