A girls basketball coach in Santa Rosa is the latest alleged perpetrator of forbidden coach-student sex.
A Santa Rosa girls basketball coach was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of having sex with a 16-year old student, according to sheriff's deputies.
Andrew John Medeiros, 25, is a basketball coach at Cardinal Newman High in Santa Rosa. He was arrested on Tuesday at Piner High School, where he works as a student supervisor, on three felony sex offenses, according to reports.
His alleged dalliance with the student, whose name was not released, began last season when Medeiros coached the girl in question, according to Bay City News.
It was discovered when the girl's parents found sexually explicit text messages sent between Medeiros and his alleged "victim," according to sheriff's deputies.
In California, the age of sexual consent is 18.
Medeiros was a coach for the North Bay Elite Basketball club as well as Cardinal Newman. He is free on $50,000 bail.
