Coastside Young Actors Featured in Half Moon Bay Festival's Haunted House

The attraction raises money for their spring play.

From creepy ghosts to dangerous pirates, kids from the Coastside Young Actors Workshop each played a character in the annual haunted house featured at Half Moon Bay’s 46th Pumpkin Festival.

On a damp, cool Sunday morning, the kids eagerly, but carefully transformed their faces into ghoulish characters behind an old, historic barn in Half Moon Bay.

A small dog dressed as a pirate's parrot prompted pets from the aspiring actors as they got ready.

Entering into the dark interior of the barn, you hear the voice of Kevin North, Young Actors Workshop Artistic Director and haunted barn guide, begin the performance.

Many years ago, North said, the infamous Captain Howdy had the misfortune to end up in Half Moon Bay.

Now, years later, the captain's treasure is still hidden in town.

With the Johnson Barn one of the oldest historic sites in Half Moon Bay, he believes it is likely to be somewhere in the building.

The haunted house happens just one weekend a year during the annual pumpkin festivities and the $8 each person paid to the attraction helps fund the nonprofit's spring play, which North says is written and acted by the students.
