Experimental Aircraft Crash in Petaluma, Pilot Dead

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating a crash of an experiment aircraft in Petaluma that left the pilot dead Friday, Sonoma County Sheriff's Department Lt. Greg Miller said.

The experimental Quicksilver MXL II aircraft crashed in the 400 block of Browns Lane near the Adobe Creek Golf Course at around 12:30 p.m., the FAA said. Police described the plane as an ultra-light aircraft.

No passengers were on board the aircraft.

The cause of the crash is not known.
