You will see lots of brake lights on 101 Sunday.

Tired of being stuck on traffic during your daily commute?  Then you might want to consider taking a spin through the Bay Area's new Express Lane network.

The lanes are actually old carpool lanes which has been converted to electronic pay tolls.   Drivers will  need a FasTrak transponder to use the lane.   Toll costs have not been set, but it will be based on the level of traffic.

Right now, the Interstate 680 Express Lane between Highway 84 in Sunol and Highway 237 in Milpitas is in full operation.  Another lane through the 237-880 interchange in Milpitas will be available in March. No specific date has been given.

The Metropolitan Transportation Commission plans on adding more Express Lanes on selected locations on Interstate 80, 580, 680 and 880 throughout the Bay Area by 2015.  Once completed, there will be 570 miles of toll lanes in which solo drivers will be able to use.
