Family On Vacation During Sunnyvale House Fire

Emergency crews were looking for a family of four.

Update: Sunnyvale Fire Department believes that the family of four whose house was destroyed early this morning are on vacation. Authorities are trying to confirm the assertion. A neighbor also tells us they are on vacation in Beijing.

The Sunnyvale Fire Department is waiting for daylight to go in and search the home that burned down overnight on Duncardine Way.

The house was fully engulfed in flames when the fire department arrived. The young family of four is new to the neighborhood, having only lived there about a year.

The situation was serious enough to call for a second alarm. A downed, live power line prevented the fire department from getting into the backyard until PG&E was able to turn off the power.

They're hoping that the family was out of town when a fire destroyed their home around 1 a.m. this morning. It is "ski week" after all, but there is good reason to be concerned. No one saw anyone escape. Two cars are still in the driveway.

Doug Duncan who lives next door doesn't believe they own a third.

"I suspect they're going to find bodies. It's really pretty tragic, but that's my gut belief," he said.

Duncan says a mom and dad live there with their young son and daughter, possibly 3 and 7 years old.
