Free Admission For Veterans at San Francisco Zoo

Bay Area veterans may choose to celebrate their respective Veterans Day restfully at home or out and about, but in San Francisco, hundreds of veterans and military personnel will be spending their day at the zoo.

The San Francisco Zoo & Gardens will host its annual free admission day for veterans and active military personnel today for Veterans Day starting at 10 a.m. when the park opens.

The zoo will be extending free admission, a lunch, and a guided tour to veterans and active military personnel with valid service ID, according to San Francisco Zoo & Gardens executive director Tanya Peterson.

"Free admission on Veterans Day is another way for the Zoo to say thank you to the men and women in uniform who sacrifice so much for our country," Peterson said in a statement.

This program attracts visitors from veterans' programs and hospitals throughout Northern California, with over 450 veterans expected to attend, zoo officials said.

In addition, the zoo will offer a 10 percent discount on annual memberships to veterans and military personnel on Wednesday, according to San Francisco Zoo & Gardens spokesman Danny Latham.

"We want to show our appreciation for all they've done," Latham said.
