Kansas Preacher: God Hates Jews and Gays, but Not Twitter

Apparently the freedom to text message is threatened by Barack "Anti-christ" Obama

With such colorful signs and theatrics, one has to wonder if the Westboro Baptist Church isn't some kind of big, gay performance art troupe.

The controversial but highly visible Westboro Baptist Church congregation will be visiting San Francisco on Thursday, and Lord knows they won't be in Topeka, Kansas, anymore.

Westboro Baptist is led by charismatic preacher Fred Phelps, who just happens to think God hates Jews, gays and hockey, and Lady Gaga will burn in hell. Phelps and members of his congregation will tour the city, but not like typical tourists eager to see our sea lions or ride a cable car.

No, they'll be starting their day by picketing the Contemporary Jewish Museum on Mission. Followed by a visit to the offices of the Anti-Defamation League, and then the Jewish Community Center. Because, apparently, the Jews killed Jesus (who was himself a Jew, and was actually sentenced to death by a Roman, but nevermind).

But after a visit to Lowell High School (huh?), they'll stop by that den of sin and iniquity known as Twitter. Yes, they are scheduled to picket the headquarters of Twitter at 4:30 p.m. in the afternoon.

According to the itinerary for the three day Bay Area trip posted on their Web site:

Twitter is a company which lends itself to mass communication. Why in heaven's name would the great publishers at WBC NOT picket this place?

Clearly, like any Twitter user, they are attention-seeking narcissists.

Maybe the idea came from Phelps's granddaughter, Megan Phelps-Roper, who is a prolific Twitter user herself. She tweets:

Don’t be silly! We're not protesting Twitter as a platform; that's like picketing television! =) We're picketing the people who run @Twitter, who don't use their position & voice to warn a generation of rebels of the consequences of their rebellion. Same goes for those at Foursquare & Gowalla (tho I personally find their products useless -- at least relative to Twitter. =)

After their desperate trolling for retweets and Twitpics, and presumably grabbing dinner at one of San Francisco's justifiably famous restaurants, they'll be back to harassing Jews and the people who love them in the form of the production of Fiddler on the Roof at the Golden Gate Theater.

All of which has to make one wonder, why pick on the chosen people when they could hop the F-Market for a trip over the rainbow to the Castro?

Jackson West would think this has something to do with the Proposition 8 trial, except the congregation seems intent on harassing the Jews and not the gays.
