Large Turnouts at Debate Watch Parties in Bay Area

There was a strong turnout Sunday night at presidential debate watch parties in San Francisco, and not surprisingly, neither candidate's supporters were about to convert.

Republican Donald Trump tried to diffuse his past vulgar comments about women by bringing up Bill Clinton’s past abuse of women, and Democrat Hillary Clinton said the remarks show the American people who Trump really is.

A watch party at Hotel Zetta brought out young voters. There were buttons available for both candidates. Many attendees were disappointed by the debate itself.

Republicans gathered at a number of watch parties in the Bay Area, including Menlo Park, while Clinton supporters in San Francisco packed the Holiday Inn.

One of the only things the sides seemed to agree on is that they hope undecided voters are paying close attention and make a decision soon.

Christine Pelosi is chair of the women’s caucus for the California Democratic Party, said, "When you see successful women that are reduced the way Donald Trump comments have reduced us, it really is a turn off."

Reaction was quick as the Trump tapes came up, along with comments about Bill Clinton’s past trangressions with women.

"This should not even be in the dialogue," said Hazel O. Davis, a Clinton supporter.

Adam Mehis, of San Francisco, said, "I think she is doing really well, and I think she's trying to figure out where the middle ground is."

At Hotel Zetta, the watch party by Inforum of the Commonwealth Club and Brigade brought out hundreds.

"It’s a great form of entertainment, but it's almost painful," said one young voter. "A lot of this matters to a lot of us. I have massive student loans. A lot of Americans have serious issues."

Republicans in Menlo Park believed Trump did well.

"Trump has obviously engaged in bad behavior," one voter said. "When you compare his bad behavior to Clinton’s bad behavior, there is no comparison."
