Spokeswoman Tasha Bartholomew said that at about 7:30 a.m., the man was hit by northbound train No. 215. His identiy has not been released. She added that preliminary investigation shows that the man may have intended to end his life, though the San Mateo County Coroner will make the final determination.

Tracks were closed during the morning commute for at least 45 minutes. At 8:15 a.m., she said, trains began single-tracking at slower speeds and both tracks were open by 9:30 a.m.

Bartholomew added: "No matter what the circumstances, it is always regrettable when a life is lost...Caltrain also would like to thank our passengers for their patience as we deal with these sad incidents."
