LIVE: NBC Bay Area Special 9/11 Coverage

Above is NBC Bay Area's special coverage of the 10th anniversary of the terror attacks on the United States.

A little later this morning, the most obvious participation in 9/11 events here in the Bay Area will happen at 10 a.m.

That is the time many cities across Northern California will participate in a National Moment of Remembrance of the 10th Anniversary of Sept. 11 terror attacks.

It will last a minute. And instead of a quiet display, people and emergency officials are being encouraged to make some noise.

At 10 a.m., sirens, horns and church bells will ring out for a full minute.

People are being asked to stop all work or other activity, if possible, and mark the moment in an appropriate manner.  You're asked to pause and remember those who lost their lives ten years ago today.

Most firefighters and police officers across the Bay Area will make their sirens whale. Many churches will ring their bells.

You can find a list of other activities here in the Bay Area on the day of remembrance at this link.

On this day ten years ago 2,983 people were killed in New York City, washington D.C. and Shankesville Pennsylvania.
