Off-Duty Security Guard Caught Stealing From Old Facebook HQ

The Palo Alto theft was an inside job and unsuccessful.

Stealing stuff from work is never advised, especially when you're a security guard and you're spotted by a coworker.

One of the two men accused of breaking into Facebook's old corporate offices in Palo Alto was an off-duty security guard, according to the Palo Alto Daily News.

Off-duty guard Brandon Simon, 20, of Sunnyvale, and accomplice Travis Calhoun, 21, are alleged to have broken into the old offices -- which are unused but still house property -- in order to steal 49 laptops, the newspaper reported.

An on-duty guard called police to report two masked men in black removing property from 1050 Page Mill Road at 1:31 a.m. Monday, according to the newspaper. The thieves fled when they made eye contact with the guard.

The guard gave a description of the men and their vehicle to cops, who soon thereafter saw a car matching the description. It containted burglary tools and a second car following close behind contained the laptops, the newspaper reported.

The two men were arrested and charged with six felony counts.
