Officer Shot in Oakland Violence

A Fremont police officer was shot in East Oakland at about 2:30  p.m. Friday and is now undergoing surgery at Highland Hospital in Oakland,  according to Oakland police spokesman Jeff Thomason.
     
Thomason said the officer was scheduled to undergo surgery. Authorities would not release the officer's name. He was described as a six year veteran of the force and he was shot in the lower torso but the injuries appears to be "survivable."

The officer was on the Southern Alameda County Major Crimes Task Force, which focuses on gang and narcotics related crime.

Police were searching for a 20-year-old Hispanic male named Andrew Barrientos, according to the Fremont Police Department.

He was last seen driving a "car-jacked" green Mazda sedan with California plates: 4MJE548.

The Oakland Police Department has set up a command  post at 90th Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard, which is near the scene of the  shooting.
