If you smell smoke and see flames Monday at Grant Ranch in the South Bay Monday, don't worry.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, along with the Santa Clara County Department of Parks and Recreation is conducting a prescribed burn, and is aware and in control of the situation.

The burn project is located in the Grant Ranch County Park off Mount Hamilton road, about eight miles east of San Jose. The smoke will be visible from the San Jose area and south Santa Clara Valley.

CAL FIRE and Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation have been conducting prescribed burns for several years.  Prescribed burning increases biodiversity, controls noxious weeds, enhances wildlife habitat and protects against large damaging wildland fires. All prescribed burn projects are conducted under specific weather and fuel conditions to minimize any negative impacts.
