Amtrak Train Kills Richmond Pedestrian

In one of two train-related fatalities on Friday night, a pedestrian was fatally struck by an Amtrak train in Richmond.

At 6:20 p.m., southbound train number 542 was traveling along the Capitol Corridor when it hit someone trespassing on the tracks near the Richmond BART station, Amtrak spokesman Cliff Cole said.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, Cole added. No other injuries were reported.

Cole said that the 225 passengers and crewmembers aboard the train were transferred to southbound train No. 544.

Trains in both directions were delayed for about 2 hours and 20 minutes, Cole added.
