Police searched for answers Saturday after an apparent murder-suicide at a busy shopping center in San Jose.

San Jose police on Monday identified the murder-suicide victims who were found Saturday in the parking lot of a south San Jose shopping center, but revealed no specific motive for the unusual daytime deaths.

The man was identified as Trung Quoc Nguyen, 32, of San Jose. Police say he pulled the trigger on his girlfriend, Emanuel Tran Phoung Nguyen, 39, of San Jose, before killing himself in the Gould Center, a strip mall in the 1000 block of East Capitol Expressway.

The couple had been dating and their 17-month-old daughter was in the suspect's car nearby. The toddler wasn't harmed, but taken into Santa Clara County Child Protective Services shortly afterward. The girlfriend had come to the mall in a separate car.

The double shooting was reported at 9:32 a.m.

Police did not reveal a specific motive for what set the boyfriend off. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the police department's homicide unit at 408-277-5283 or the police non-emergency dispatch line at (408) 277-8900.
