South Bay Among Nation's Biggest Homeless Populations

NBC10

When looking for the homeless, look no further than Silicon Valley.

San Jose and Santa Clara have one of the "worst" homeless problems in the nation, a recent federal survey revealed.

The South Bay has the "nation's fifth-highest homeless population," the San Jose Mercury News reported, including the country's highest percentage of veterans (80.6 percent) living on the streets.

There are 610,000 homeless people in the country, the Department of Housing and Urban Development found, and 7,631 in Santa Clara County.

Only New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle and San Diego have more homeless people, the newspaper reported.

There are 136,826 homeless people in California.
