Sewage Spill Closes Ocean Beach

A mess of sewage closes Ocean Beach.

It's been a sunny day on San Francisco's west side, but it started off rather messy.

A sewage spill on Ocean Beach on Wednesday closed much of the sand strip in the city's outer lands, according to SF Weekly.

At 1 a.m., "a mess discharged from a manhole" at Great Highway and Balboa Street, according to the newspaper. Crews think the spill is mostly rainwater -- up to 90 percent mere precipitation, nothing else -- but took no chances. Much of the beach was closed, the newspaper reported.

Traffic was not affected.
