Unsafe at Any Speed, Carole Migden is Back Behind the Wheel

Former state senator gets new taxpayer-funded car even as attorney general investigates possible perjury

Carole Migden has been given a brand new car -- sort of.

Appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to the California Integrated Waste Management Board, the former state senator will have a state vehicle to drive as part of the job.

Migden's driving has become a political issue in the wake of a reckless driving incident which she can't remember that may cost taxpayers up to $335,000.

And it's not just her driving record that is raising eyebrows -- Attorney General Jerry Brown is looking in to whether or not Migden lied under oath in order to bill the accident to the state and not her own insurance.

Migden claimed she was on state business and "medicated" at the time of the May 2007 accident, and hence the state is liable for the amount of the settlement.

However, she may have instead been on her way to secure an endorsement for her state senate campaign, which would have been private business, leaving her and her own insurance liable.

It would also be felony perjury, which would certainly put the brakes on Migden's wild driving -- not to mention her political career.
