Hikers Discover Human Skull in Griffith Park: LAPD

The skull was thought to be several years old

A human skull was found in a remote area of Griffith Park Saturday, authorities said.

Hikers found the skull at 2 p.m. and reported it to park rangers, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

No other body parts were found.

Police were on scene investigating the area where the skull was found at Brush Canyon Trail and Mulholland Trail on Saturday evening, near the Hollywood sign.

It wasn't immediately clear how long the skull had been there. Investigators also hadn't yet determined the cause of death.

The skull was thought to be several years old.

Covering 6 ½ square miles in the eastern Santa Monica Mountain range, Griffith Park is considered the largest municipal park in the nation.
