A judge has granted a request from the defense attorneys of Aaron Hernandez to postpone the double-murder and witness intimidation trial for the 2012 homicides of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado and the subsequent non-fatal shooting of a percipient witness.
The case will return to court for a status hearing on Jan. 19, which was the previous trial date.
Hernandez is accussed of gunning down de Abreu and Furtado after a chance encounter at a Boston nightclub. He has pleaded not guilty.
Late last week, both sides filed a joint motion to delay the start of the trial, citing a pending appeal over evidence in the case.
Hernandez is already serving a life sentence after being convicted this year in the 2013 killing of Odin Lloyd, who was dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancΓ©e.
