Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg stands in her Supreme Court chambers in Washington. She recently commented in interviews about the possibility of Donald Trump becoming the next president.

In separate interviews with the Associated Press and The New York Times, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg took the unusual step, for a Supreme Court Justice, of weighing in on the presidential election.

"I can't imagine what this place would be — I can't imagine what the country would be — with Donald Trump as our president," Ginsburg told the Times.

The city of New Orleans will remove four statues of Confederate-era events and figures in an effort to divorce itself from symbols that some see as problematic. The first statue, the Liberty Place Monument, was taken down early Monday morning.

"For the country, it could be four years. For the court, it could be — I don't even want to contemplate that," she said, joking that her husband, who died in 2010, would have said, "'Now it's time for us to move to New Zealand.'"

Last week, she told the AP of a potential Trump presidency: "I don't want to think about that possibility, but if it should be, then everything is up for grabs."

In both interviews, she suggested that with three sitting justices at advanced ages, the next president could have appointments to make in addition to the seat left empty by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia.

Ginsburg's colleagues have largely stayed out of the fight over Scalia's seat.

Body camera footage shows a Florida police officer being dragged by a driver attempting to flee a traffic stop.

Police said Frank Wetzel, 61, was pulled over after blowing through a stop sign. Police said he started fidgeting with something next to him, making the officer suspicious. He was allegedly later found with a machete and handgun.
