Health Advocates Clash With Adult Film Industry Over Condom Regulations

Representatives from both sides met in Oakland on Monday

There's a deep rift between California health advocates and the porn industry over condom use in sex films.

Workplace regulators and pornography industry representatives gathered for a Monday workshop in Oakland to air disagreements about industry practices, existing laws and the possibility of enhanced porn workplace protections. Cal-OSHA sponsored the meeting.

It was recently disclosed a porn film performer tested HIV-positive and more than half-dozen California adult entertainment industry firms halted production.

During Monday's session, the Los Angeles Times says health advocates urged strict workplace protections tailored to the porn industry. But industry officials say their approach of education, optional condoms and regular testing for infectious disease is working.

A petition filed by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation last year asked Cal-OSHA to amend its regulations to require condom use in the adult film industry.
