IBM's Watson to Move From Jeopardy to Healthcare

advertisement

Now that IBM's Watson supercomputer has proved itself to be better than humans at Jeopardy, it's time to put it to work in a more productive setting: the healthcare industry.

Watson's ability to parse language and mountains of data quickly and accurately would be perfectly suited for hospitals, where doing just that is very, very important. With 10,000 medical papers being published each year, there's just no way a doctor could read them all. Watson could help with that.

So no, you won't be getting a checkup from Dr. Watson anytime soon. But he might just be assisting your human doctor and helping him make smarter decisions. Complain about that, Ken Jennings.
