A fishing boat out of Southern California was extensively damaged this week when it struck a 40-ton whale while the craft was traveling at 22 knots, according to a published report.
The Badger, which is ported in Newport Beach, met the nearly immovable object Wednesday off Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, reported the San Diego Union-Tribune. The boat's captain, San Diego native Steve Lassley, was shocked the boat made it back to shore.
"I don't know how the boat survived the impact," Lassley told the paper. "I believe any other boat would have split in two."
Another whale hit a boat Monday, the paper reported. Nobody was injured in Wednesday's incident.
