UC Berkeley students and maintenance workers noticed 100-year-old bronze-and-granite Sather Gate was a bit "wobbly" last year. Now the French baroque structure is coming down for inspections and retrofitting (before it lands the University of California in a lawsuit). The process will take six months and $1.5 million of careful dismantling and re-mantling the landmark bit by bronze bit back onto a new steel frame. [SF Gate]
