Berkeley Man Held After Explosives, Weapons Seized

9-1-1 hang-up prompted police to search home

Berkeley police are holding a man they say was in possession of explosives and the materials to make even more.

A 911 hang up call Saturday brought police to a home on Grizzly Peak Boulevard.

Inside, police say they found 27-year-old Emoru Oboke Obbanya acting suspiciously for no apparent reason.

Officers say a search of the home turned up several prohibited items including an illegal firearm, a destructive device, materials to make an explosive device and ammunition.

Police evacuated the home and neighboring homes while they called in a bomb squad and the University of California Police blast transport vessel to remove the items.

Obbanya is being held on $121,500 bail.

Police say they are still investigating what Obbanya was doing with all of the items.
