People who lost their homes in last year's North Bay wildfires are being invited to take free family portraits during a "FireProofs" event next month.

Jim Vetter Photography will host the May 6 event at the Solage resort in Calistoga.

Jim Vetter, the owner of a photo studio in Fairfax, said he first thought of the event the day the fires began.

"I woke up on the morning of October 9th to the smell of smoke," Vetter said in a news release. "When I realized what was happening, my heart broke. I knew I wanted to help these families."

Families can register for the free, 20-minute session here. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on May 6 at the Solage resort at 755 Silverado Trail in Calistoga.
