Man in Critical Condition After Grisly Oakland Dirt Bike Crash

A man who was riding a dirt bike Saturday in West Oakland is in critical condition tonight after a collision involving his dirt bike, a car and another dirt bike, police said.

The collision was first reported at about 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of 16th and Peralta streets, about a block northwest of Mandela Parkway.

Surveillance video from the crash shows a car turning left and the biker, who was driving straight ahead, collide. The victim was then thrown off the bike on impact.

The driver of the car and the driver of the other dirt bike are in stable condition, Officer K. Hazen said.

Neighbors in the area where the crash happened describe hearing a loud bang.

"It was kind of startling at first because the young man had run into the car," said Bobby Jones. "There were numerous people here who tried to comfort them before the ambulance and other security came to give them some aid."

Jones told NBC Bay Area that the dirt bikers were not wearing helmets.

What happened and what caused the collision are still under investigation, Hazen said.
