Man Shot Earlier in the Week Dies After Surgery

SALINAS (BCN)

A man who was shot earlier this week near a middle school in Salinas has died, police said today.

Pedro Alonso, 19, died at a hospital early this morning after undergoing surgery for gunshot wounds he suffered on Wednesday.

Around 6:20 p.m. Wednesday, a car with several males drove up alongside Alonso as he was driving near La Paz Middle School on North Sanborn Road, and one suspect fired multiple rounds at his vehicle, according to police.

One of the bullets struck Alonso in the upper torso, but he continued driving until he crashed on Boronda Road near Falcon Drive.

Police are continuing to investigate the shooting. All that is known about the suspects so far is that they were possibly in a silver-colored Acura, police said.
