Officials Search for Missing Fishermen Near San Mateo

The Coast Guard is searching for men who have gone missing after their boat capsized, Sunday

The U.S. Coast Guard will continue searching through the night for two fishermen who went missing when a boat capsized off the San Mateo County coast this morning, a spokesman said.

At about 11:30 a.m. Sunday, the Coast Guard responded to a report of an 18-foot Striper that capsized in the Ocean near Pigeon Point south of Half Moon Bay, Lt. Jared Hood said.

Two men from the fishing boat were able to swim to shore and report the incident to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, Hood said.

Search-and-rescue teams from the Coast Guard, the sheriff's office and local agencies responded to the area to assist in the search for the two remaining men, Hood said.

The search continued as of around 10 p.m., according to a spokesman.

The Coast Guard plans to have a C-130 Hercules aircraft on the scene for the next three to three and a half hours, and a helicopter on scene for another hour or so, the spokesman said. A boat will remain on scene through the night and into tomorrow morning.
