Pacifica House Fire Displaces 4 People, Kills 2 Cats

A fire at a home in Pacifica early Friday morning displaced four residents and killed two cats, fire officials said.

According to North County Fire Authority Fire Investigator Clyde Preston, 6 fire companies battled the blaze at a two-story, split-level home at 40 East Lake Ave. that was reported at 1:17 a.m. Friday.

Crews arrived to see smoke coming from the front of the home and ended up saving one of the occupants from a balcony on the side of the residence, Preston said. All of the other occupants had evacuated during the blaze, he said. No residents or firefighters were injured in the blaze.

According to Preston, the fire started in the kitchen, but no official cause has been determined. He said there was extensive damage to kitchen, smoke damage to the level where the fire burned and minor damage to the floor below the kitchen.

The American Red Cross is providing assistance to occupants of the home who were displaced.

Fire officials also said residents should install and maintain smoke alarms in their homes.
