Package-Stealing Thief in El Cerrito Taken into Custody

A man suspected of stealing packages from an El Cerrito home last month, was arrested Saturday morning after an alert officer spotted the wanted man, according to police.

At 10:48 a.m., an officer on patrol contacted a man in a vehicle in the 1600 block of Arlington Boulevard, according to police.

The officer recognized the man as the same person police had been looking for in connection with a package theft, police said.

The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Hayward resident Noriel Bautista, was arrested for two unrelated warrants and booked into the Contra Costa County Jail, according to police.

During his arrest, officers were able to recover evidence in connection with the package theft that occurred on Aug. 30, police said.

In that theft, the suspect was seen on video removing a package from the front porch of an El Cerrito home in the 2600 block of Arlington Boulevard.
